After her training, which included the five year Training College in Fine Arts, two years workshops with artist Hector Medici's and the three years course of studies for Graphic Design and Publicity at EPA, she discovered calligraphy, almost by chance.

Being a teacher at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), an American calligrapher arrived. Carol Johnson introduced her into this discipline.

She continued as a teacher for UBA in the subject of Editorial Design and in 1998 she worked as a colleague on Typography, where she devoted a whole term to the introduction of calligraphy and the learning of the Foundational style.

With the birth of her third daughter, she abandoned her teaching career at UBA and devoted to the graphic designer business and to deepen her training as a calligrapher. First in Argentina and then attending five International Calligraphy Conferences in USA & three in Europe. Taking courses with renowned calligraphers like Thomas Ingmire, Brody Neuenschwander, Ewan Clayton & Monica Dengo, amongst others. (see Calligraphy conferences at the bottom of the page).

In 2003 she was awarded with a scholarship from the ACA (Association for the Calligraphic Arts).

In 2007 / 2008 she returned to the University of Buenos Aires to teach the first seminars in experimental calligraphy for post-graduate students.

She has received national & international awards and exhibited her pictorial and calligraphic works in Argentina, Uruguay, USA, Spain, Japan, Germany, Russia and Norway.

Her works are part of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy in Moscow, the Hans-Joachim Burgert´s Collection in Berlin, Akademie Du Kunste, the Arezzo Public Library, the Latin American Collection for the Yale University, the Savannah College of Arts, the Otis Colleges of Arts and the Baylor University in the USA amongst other private collections around the world. The Klingspor Museum as well as the Hoefer Archive recently hold her artworks in Germany as well as the Harrison Collection in the San Francisco Public Library.

She was a founding member of "Southern Cross Calligraphers", the first calligraphy group in South America. This group had a notorious performance between 1997 and 2006, year in which it was dissolved.

She has published articles in specialized magazines and her works may be seen in Letter Arts Review´s Annuals, Bound & Lettered and the ACA's Newsletters amongst other calligraphic guilds from the USA. Novum (Germany) & Letter Palet (Holland) have devoted articles to her work as well as Typo (Mexico), Pulso Diseño (Uruguay) & several Argentine magazines, blogs and webpages.

In 2012, her work was extensively featured in Letter Arts Review: 26:3. (see Press)
At present, she works as an experimental calligrapher, book artist, doing commissions. She continues to teach in her own studio and abroad: Italy, Germany, USA, Australia, México and Puerto Rico.

Her main interest is experimental calligraphy, and her goal is to mingle and blend diverse disciplines: art, textile art, graphic design, sumi-e and calligraphy to challenge the limits of conceptual art and technique.

    International Conferences in Calligraphy

    The International Conferences in Calligraphy are events which have been taking place every year since 1981 in different North American cities. They are organized by the different calligraphy associations from each city. They host between 400 and 600 people who travel from all over the world to take part. They last one week and students are lodged in renowned universities or schools. Workshops on formal and experimental calligraphy, book fine arts and related disciplines are given. Expositions with the teachers’ and students’ work are made as well as demonstrations and audio visual conferences.

    I have taken part in four conferences in the USA and three in Europe:

      Words for Peace is a project created by Thomas Ingmire, outstanding American calligrapher.
      Thomas made an international call to his students and he even fostered the participation of children in this project.
      When I received the invitation, I gathered my daughters to tell them about the objective. After a chat about the topic, my daughter Mora (aged nine) decided to write “Please, stop the war”; Catalina (aged eight) couldn’t undergo the task of space and made a drawing which Thomas stuck on his fridge; finally Peky (only five) produced a kind of writing which looks like a graph in green.

    • 2003. Celebration in Ohio, USA.
      In 2003 I was granted a scholarship from ACA (Association for the Calligraphic Arts) in the United States to participate in Celebration.
      I attended Judy Melvin’s and Liza Engelbredcht’s workshops.
      In that conference an auction of calligraphic books was organized and my work, which was put up for auction, was acquired by Karen Charatan.
